Sfekodlar oilasiga mansub asalarilar turkumi Halictidae, ularning aksariyati qora va qizil rangga ega va og'zaki ravishda "qonli asalarilar" deb nomlanadi.[1] Sfekodlar asalarilar kleptoparazit boshqa asalarilarda, ayniqsa nasldagi asalarilarda Lasioglossum, Halictus va Andrena. Kattalar nektarni iste'mol qiladilar, ammo boshqa asalarilarning nasllarini boqish uchun ishlatganliklari sababli ular polen yig'ishmaydi.[2]
